| | UO-1001 PEM Fuel Cell Unit | |
| The UO-1001 PEM Fuel Cell Unit Operations Stand is a unique furl cell system for a unique fuel cell market. We understand that the needs of a unit operations laboratory are far different from a research laboratory or a classroom demonstration unit. The UO-1001 has been designed specifically to meet the demands of a chemical or mechanical engineering department's unit operation laboratory.
UO-1001 Description Below is a list of features that set this Fuel Cell Unit Operations Testing Stand apart from the competition. The UO-1001 is the only PEM fuel cell testing systems that was designed specifically for chemical and mechanical engineering unit operations laboratories by chemical engineers with unit operations laboratory experience.
The UO-1001 comes complete with Fuel Cell Stack, Data Acquisition Board, Data Acquisition Software, and Comprehensive Education Manual. PEM Fuel Cell Stack Unit includes a fully instrumented three cell stack. Instrumentation includes voltage and temperature probes for each cell and heating cartridge. Stack is designed to easily plug into inner sidewall of the unit.
We can also provide additional custom stacks upon request. Comprehensive Education Manual A detailed educational text which provides: background into the PEM fuel cell which includes detailed description of the physical and chemical phenomena occurring in the PEM fuel; specific instructions on the safe operation of the UO-1001, which includes detailed description of each device, its operation and function; detailed experiments that teach the students about the operating parameters that affect fuel cell performance; detailed safety procedures for startup, shutdown, and emergency shutdown; and qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques (written by Dr. Trung Van Nguyen, an expert in the PEM Fuel Cell field) for analyzing the results of the experiments performed.
These techniques include a graphical method for qualitative analysis of performance and a numerical approach which allows students to not only model the performance of the fuel cell, but also provides a side by side comparison with conventional chemical kinetics to allow student to equate what they know about traditional chemical kinetics to the lesser known electrochemical kinetics.
Complete Control of Fuel Cell The UO-1001 allows student to examine all of the operating parameters affecting fuel cell performance. The UO-1001 provides control of fuel cell current, reactant gas flow rates, operating temperature, operating pressure, and humidification. All controls are intuitively located on the front panel of the unit. The front panel also displays all data acquired: potentials, current, temperatures, pressures, and flow rates.
Convenient Data Acquisition The UO-1001 comes with an embedded data acquisition board and the DataWolf software. The software communicates through the COM port of any Windows based PC. No modifications to the PC or third party hardware/software is required. The UO-1001 also provides an analog data output port, which provides users the ability to use third party data acquisition systems if desired. DataWolf reads, displays and records all potentials, temperatures, and current. DataWolf also records to both an automatic & manually triggered data files and integrates with spreadsheet software to facilitate easy data processing.
Emphasis on Safety, Safety is of primary concern to any unit operations laboratory. The UO-1001 was designed with this in mind. The UO-1001 is an enclosed unit, eliminating the exposure of students to the internal devices. The frame of the systems is made of rugged 14-gauge steel. The fuel cell stack platform is enclosed in sturdy Lexan windows. Humidifying bottles are enclosed with a second Lexan shield and use silicone stoppers, which provide a pressure release mechanisms. The provided fuel cell stack is constructed of sturdy aluminum to ensure integrity in event of failure.
Additionally, hydrogen and air reactant gases use different connector sizes to ensure proper connection. Internal devices are powered by low DC voltages to reduce the risk of exposure to high AC voltages. All internal hydrogen tubing is made of stainless steel. Internal volume includes a hydrogen sensor and a forced ventilation fan. Installation Requirements The UO-1001 is a fully functional fuel cell testing unit.
For installation, the following are required:
- Supply of Hydrogen, preferably of zero grade: The hydrogen will connect to the UO-1001 via a 1/8
- swagelok compression fitting. Hydrogen tank, hydrogen pressure regulator and 1/8
- tubing to the systems are available for purchase through thehydrogencompany.com.
- Supply of Air: The air will connect to the UO-1001 via a swagelok compression fitting.
Air tank, air pressure regulator and tubing will need to be provided by the purchaser.
Exhaust systems: The UO-1001 comes with a 2 exhaust port on the rear of the system. This will need to be connected to an exhaust fan to ensure that un-reacted hydrogen will not accumulate in the room.
Bench Space: The UO-1001 is 30 L x 18 W x 24 H. Bench space will need to allow some excess space in the rear for the exhaust port (approx 3), on the left side for the sliding front door (approx 12), and on the right side for gas inlet connections (approx 3). |
