Fuel Cell Manufacturing

The Fuel Cell industry has the opportunity to change the way we obtain energy. Using a chemical reaction, rather than combustion or batteries, fuel cells are a reliable, efficient and environmentally sound source of energy. Today, the industry works toward commercialization of its products and Entegris enables the success.

The valuable critical material inventories of fuel cell developers include hydrogen, methanol, air and water. Entegris solutions help reduce system costs, reduce weight, enhance manufacturing predictability and maximize productivity. Entegris' polymer experience enables reduced weight in cell stacks used in stationary and transportation fuel cell applications thus removing cost. And, its molding expertise enables smaller components that reduce cost and the number of components in portable fuel cell applications.

Fuel Cell Solutions
Entegris' core competencies in polymer material science and manufacturing enable us to provide advanced fuel cell materials, components, subassemblies and value-added services to fuel cell developers.

From concept to commercialization(sm), we supply fuel cell market leaders with solutions designed to reduce system costs and weight, while increasing life, durability and overall fuel cell reliability. Fuel cell developers rely on Entegris to maintain the integrity of their valuable critical material inventories – such as hydrogen, methanol, air and water – as they react to produce more efficient, environmentally friendly power.

Improving Fuel Cell Performance
Entegris provides the industry's most advanced components and subassemblies for your stack and balance of plant that improve fuel cell reliability and maximize its productivity.

With scientists, researchers, dedicated engineering and manufacturing resources, we are committed to advancing the industry by providing cell stack and balance of plant needs in portable, stationary and transportation applications.

Product solutions include:

Custom and Standard Plates
Entegris' Composite Plate Manufacturing Center is dedicated to manufacturing bipolar, monopolar, insulator and end plates for portable, stationary and transportation fuel cell stack needs. Plates are compression molded from a highly conductive carbon-loaded composite.

Entegris works with our customers to establish the materials, product design, tooling and manufacturing methods that best suit their needs. We can manufacture plates from custom materials, and machine or mold flow fields to any specification – while always minimizing costs and optimizing product performance.

Balance of Plant
Entegris takes a systems engineering approach to help design balance-of-plant subassemblies. Choosing from a vast array of components, including valves, fittings, tubing and manifolds, Entegris works with customers to decrease the number of their components, reduce system costs and weight, and maximize productivity.

Cell Stack Subassembly and Sealing Systems
Entegris applies years of sealing technology and contamination control to fuel cell stack assembly. We have the ability to create subassemblies by putting MEAs together with Entegris bipolar plates. By outsourcing stack assemblies to Entegris, customers get a leak-free and contamination-free cell stack at a lower cost.

Balance of Plant Subassemblies
Entegris leads in its market space with a broad product offering, advanced manufacturing capabilities, worldwide infrastructure and unmatched technical expertise. It is this experience that enables us to integrate different components like manifolds, valves, fittings and tubing into balance of plant.

Shipping and Storage
Entegris has a long history of packaging critical materials and shipping them safely around the globe. With this experience we can protect and transport critical membrane electrode assemblies (MEA), gas diffusion layers (GDL), bipolar plates (BPP), ceramic plates used in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) and sensitive experimental materials for commercial companies and fuel cell research.
