Fuel Cell System Technology and Applications- PEMFC Power Block Diagram
In addition to fuel cell stack technology, APFCT has successfully developed fuel cell power systems for various applications of transportation and power generation devices. These include direct fuel cell power, hybrid fuel cell-battery and hybrid fuel cell-ultra capacitor power systems. End product applications include electric scooter, electric wheelchair and mobile power generator.
System
Fuel Cell / Power
Applications
Direct fuel cell
1~6kW liquid-cooled
Scooters (ZES II, ZES II.5, ZES II.6, ZES III, ZES IV), Mobile power generator
Hybrid fuel cell -
ultra capacitor
3kW liquid-cooled
Electric scooter (ZES IV.5, ZESIV.5 adv.)
Hybrid fuel cell –
NiMH battery
500W air-cooled
Electric wheelchair 1st and 2nd generation, ZESIV.5 adv., elctric small train

The integrated fuel cell system consists of four main sections:
Fuel Cell Stack
This is the heart of the power generating system. It is where the electrochemical process of hydrogen fuel and oxygen from air takes place to generate electricity.
Fuel Management Subsystem
The fuel management system takes hydrogen from the supply source and delivers it to the fuel cell stack at the proper pressure and flow rate. It also can purge the stack whenever appropriate.
Thermal Management Subsystem
The thermal management system regulates and maintains the stack temperature close to the optimal point. Thermal control is provided by closed-loop coolant water.
Air Flow Management Subsystem
This management system delivers clean air to the fuel cell stack at the desired flow rate, humidity and pressure. A motor driven blower draws air through an inlet filter.
