Welcome to H2 ECOnomy - Your Fuel Cell Experts!

Alternative energy sources are a point of interest world wide as oil supplies recede and global warming makes its presence known. Fuel cells are an important development that can alleviate both of these problems. H2 ECOnomy, a research and development company, investigates fuel cells and related technologies. Our team of experienced scientists and engineers are accomplished in their fields: polymer chemistry, membrane science, catalysis, electronics design and mechanical engineering. We are also proficient at converting our discoveries into products.

Since its founding in 2000, H2 ECOnomy has commercialized 1-500 watt educational and demonstration fuel cells, designed and delivered custom and standard DC-DC converters, membrane electrode assemblies and bipolar plates. We are the recipient of a US DOE Initiatives for Proliferation Prevention research grant. H2 ECOnomy was chosen to install a combination fuel cell and solar powered electrolyzer system.

We Investigate - our work focuses on finding techniques to improve the performance of hydrogen proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell. We study conductive composite materials, bipolar plate design and manufacture, catalyst ink composition and application, proton exchange membranes to name a few. Our toolkit includes polymer chemistry, catalytic chemistry, electrochemistry, mechanical engineering and computational fluid dynamics. We have fuel cell test stations, full electronic testing laboratory, impedance spectroscopy and physical testing laboratory at our facilities to assist in our investigations.

We Discover new technologies and processes! Bipolar plate material, flow field design, stack cooling and humidification, are just a few areas where where our innovative approaches have brought about effective technological solutions.

We Develop products! We have commercialized and delivered 1-500 watt fuel cells, and have built and tested stacks up to 1.5 kW. Our in-house built fuel cell test stations can test from 1 W single cell to 2 kW fuel cell stacks. Our most recent success was the fuel cell uninterruptible power supply extender prototyped and demonstrated at an H2 ECOnomy facilities. We will soon put it into action for beta testing at several locations.

We Nurture professionals! Every day we challenge our scientists to solve new problems, expanding their knowledge and our capabilities. While concentrating on research, we are also very active in providing opportunities to university students - more than 10% of our employees are fresh graduates or interns. H2 ECOnomy is active in our world and in our community, bringing the technologies of tomorrow, today.
