The Company started operation from scratch to develop a simplified Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell system.  The company has succeeded in producing workable modules of fuel cells of various sizes.  To a potential user, a fuel cell stack with inputs of gaseous reactants and associated control devices can appear to be a complex system.  Any simplification in the design of a stack will be greatly appreciated by the consumer.

The simplification of the fuel cell is due to the absence of the so-called water-management, which is normally required during the operation of a PEM fuel cell.  The water management involves a number of processes such as water purification, vaporization, circulation, collection, and condensation.

The fuel cells produced by BCS Technology are self-humidified: no addition of outside water is required.  Thus, the water-management is eliminated.  The process is based on a unique membrane electrode assembly (MEA), developed in-house by the company as well as other design features. MEAs can be made from any proton exchange membrane.

BCS fuel cells are easier to start, operate, and maintain.  The product water is pure, as it is not mixed with any input of water in the form of humidification.
