Diverse industries including semiconductor manufacture, food processing, metal processing, float glass, specialty chemicals and pharmaceuticals require hydrogen in their daily operation. Currently, hydrogen is delivered by truck to these businesses, or produced on-site. The estimated current global market for delivered hydrogen and small on-site hydrogen production (but excluding the much larger captive refinery and chemical plant hydrogen production) is over $2.0 billion; and the replacement cost of global merchant hydrogen infrastructure is at least $5 billion. The size and output of the HGM makes it well suited to supply a significant portion of the growth in this market, and to replace older and less efficient production. |
