| Description | Danish Technical University (DTU) has carried out research on a number of different fuel cell types, including MCFC, SOFC and PAFC. Its most important work, however, which is being undertaken by its chemistry department, relates to high temperature PEMFC technology based on temperature resistant polymer polybenzimidazole (PBI) which allows operating temperatures up to 200°C. Working closely with spin-off company Danish Power Systems, results from recent experiments show that the membrane requires no water management. Its high temperature fuel cells are also CO tolerant up to a concentration of several percent, so hydrogen does not need to be purified. Continuous service for over 6 months (or 5,000 hours) has been demonstrated. |
